An Indian poet in Pécs

She came to Budapest with a plane through Dubai and continued her journey to Pécs by car. For it is only her second time being in Europe, she is extremely curious about everything. The yellow rapeseed fields fill her with surprise likewise to the red roof tiles of Hungarian villages. She puts a great emphasis on pronuncing Hungarian personal and place names as precisely as possible – which she manages to do almost perfectly.

She will be spending a month in the writer’s flat in the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter in order to finish her Hindi and English language volumes. Furthermore, she will be intensively writing a new one focusing on coronavirus and life after the pandemic.

Pankhuri Sinha will take part in various local events as well. This week she holds a lecture at the English Department of the University of Pécs during which she aims to discuss the connection between Hindi and English literature. Moreover, she will also take part in a university conference at the Indology Institute. She was also invited to the Indian day in Pécs to be held in the middle of May. The website 1749.hu will soon be publishing an interview with her alongside the Hungarian translation of some of her poems.
