The new residence

The city of Debrecen joined the Hungarian Writers’ Residence Program in 2021 as a new venue. A recently renovated apartment in Zöldfa street now welcomes new writers in residence. Commissioned by the local government, the staff of Csokonai Theater has been entrusted to ensure that the Writers’ Residence Program will succeed.

Their first guest was Lilla Turbuly, who arrived in July 2021 for two weeks to search for documents on the history of her family in Debrecen and continue writing her novel.

Unfortunately, the next two authors, Czech Iréna Dousková and Marcin Wronski from Poland could not accept the invitation owing to the measures taken in response to the second wave of the pandemic.

Luckily, in October, Lea Nagy, an outstanding new poet of the KMI12 program was able to participate in MagdaFest, a week-long event focusing on women writers.
